These are the best bread maker below :
1- MOULINEX MAC PANE OW 6101
The Moulinex Mac.Pane OW 6101 is a bread maker with high-quality workmanship that can handle different types of bread.
When it comes to standards such as wholemeal bread, the Moulinex delivers first-class quality and also fulfills special requests such as gluten-free bread, kneading pasta dough or making jam. Not everything goes well, so the Moulinex finds it difficult to cope with sourdough: the loaf is not fully baked at the end and has no crust. Even the special four-way baguette use of the device does not quite meet expectations. You can bake the baguettes in the machine, but it takes a long time, fails easily and the finished bread has a thick crust at the end. The quality of the other types of bread is still so good that “normal users” will be satisfied.
Functions & operation
The Moulinex can bake bread up to a weight of 1,500 grams. 16 programs are available, these not only include bread, but also other pasta and jams. The timer can be set up to 15 hours in advance, so you can plan very well when the bread should be ready. If you accidentally unplug the power cord or if you have a power failure, the device remembers the progress for seven minutes and continues working at this point. The operation with buttons and display is good and the menu navigation is understandable. There are stickers in several languages with which you can adapt the labels on the device.
Accessories & mains operation
The voluminous Moulinex bread maker has two kneading hooks for large amounts of dough and two heating elements in the interior. In addition to the normal baking pan, you get a baguette insert with four baking trays. The scope of delivery also includes a measuring cup, a silicone brush, a scraper and a recipe book. The latter is neither in German nor in English. The Moulinex consumes a very economical 0.4 watts in standby mode, but there is no real power switch. If you do not want the device to consume any power, you must pull out the power plug.
Processing & cleaning
The processing of the Moulinex is excellent, the plastic parts are stable and the hinges are firm. The bread maker can be heard during operation, but not annoyingly loud. Cleaning is easy, the buttons are under a cover that can be wiped with a damp cloth and the cover can be removed if necessary. Cleaning the removable baking pan is pretty easy anyway. The design of the Moulinex is kept in a simple kitchen white.
The Moulinex Mac.Pane OW 6101 is not cheap, but the price is reasonable for the quality, even if the advertised baguette function is less than convincing. You currently pay around 150 euros.
- First class & large breads
- Very good workmanship
- Long timer and memory function
- Baguette insert is not convincing
- Sourdough doesn’t work
After weighing the pros and cons, the Moulinex Mac.Pane OW 6101 is the top recommendation for an all-round bread maker. The device does not handle all special cases, but it is convincing.
2- Rommelsbacher BA 550
The bread maker from Rommelsbacher with high quality processing and bakes the common bread properly. On the other hand, cleaning is difficult due to the exposed buttons and many edges.
Baking quality You have to limit yourself a bit when it comes to the bread size, the Rommelsbacher BA 550 only bakes up to a weight of 900 grams, which is quite tight for families. But the device proves to be an expert: Whole grain bread is baked without any problems, as expected. Due to the low performance, however, mixed wheat bread remains a little pale and a crust is unthinkable with wholemeal bread. The BA 550 can generally handle many types of bread. Special features are the nut dispenser, which automatically mixes other ingredients into the dough, and the individual program.
Functions & operation
The Rommelsbacher BA 550 does not have a touchscreen. The operation is easy and understandable. The illuminated display shows information about the progress and remaining time of the baking process. There are 13 programs to choose from in the menu, one of which is freely programmable with entries for individual recipes. There are also three tanning levels available. The timer allows you to plan up to 13 hours in advance. Particularly practical: the time indicated also includes the baking time of the bread. For example, if you want it to be ready in 10 hours, set the timer for 10 hours. The bread maker then automatically goes into keep warm mode.
Accessories & mains operation
Because of the small breads, the Rommelsbacher BA 550 has a single dough hook. A measuring cup and instructions with recipes are included in the scope of delivery. The manufacturer also provides tips and tricks in the event of unsatisfactory results and provides all proving and baking times for all programs in a table. The device does not have a power switch to turn it off completely, the power consumption in standby mode is 0.65 watts and the power supply unit hums quietly.
Processing & cleaning
The Rommelsbacher bread maker is well made. The size of the device is particularly striking. At 21×20 centimeters, the BA 550 is small and space-saving compared to the competition. Cleaning is complicated because of many small cracks and smiles. In addition, the lid cannot be completely removed, which makes cleaning even more difficult.
If smaller loaves of bread are sufficient for you, the Rommelsbacher BA 550 offers you good baking quality and sufficient versatility. You currently pay around 93 euros for this.
- 13 hours delay start
- large selection of programs
- automatic ingredient compartment for nuts & fruits
- heavy cleaning
- Integrated measuring cup difficult to read
- Power supply hums quietly
The Rommelsbacher BA 550 bakes somewhat smaller breads than the test winner, but the bread maker has practical special functions and delivers reliable baking results.
3- Moulinex Flower Delight OW240E
The Moulinex Flower Delight OW240E offers three programs for gluten-free bread and is quiet and more durable thanks to the motor that starts up.
The Moulinex Flower Delight OW240E scores points in the test with three gluten-free programs and comes with a separate rye bread program. The 720 watts bring the bread maker up to 205 degrees. This means that even heavy types of bread such as wholemeal rye are baked through and have a crispy crust. However, there is no setting for sourdough here. The Flower Delight can also handle many other types of bread, as well as yeast and pizza dough or jam. You can also prepare yoghurt and quark in the Moulinex OW240E. The corresponding accessories are included in the scope of delivery.
Functions & operation
The Moulinex OW240E comes with a number of programs and has a practical delay function of up to 15 hours. You can also set the bread size and degree of browning. You can use it to bake bread weighing up to 1,000 grams.
Accessories & mains operation
The enclosed recipe book devotes an entire chapter to gluten-free bread, with these programs being limited to a maximum of 1,000 grams. However, compared to the competition, there are few other recipes in the booklet. A mug with a lid and a drip tray are included for preparing yoghurt and quark. Unfortunately, the device does not have a power switch, which is why the power consumption is 0.4 watts.
Processing & cleaning
The housing of the Moulinex Flower Delight OW240E is solidly built and, thanks to the recessed buttons, offers few cracks in which dough or crumbs can stick. It is particularly practical that the manufacturer supplies a sheet of labels in various languages. The programs and settings printed are in English by default.
The Moulinex Flower Delight OW240E is quite versatile and is particularly useful for people with allergies or food intolerances. You currently pay around 127 euros for the bread maker.
- up to 205 degrees (ideal for whole grain rye)
- quiet & durable due to the starting engine
- Accessories for yoghurt & quark
- unlit display
- Gluten-free programs only up to 1,000 grams
- no viewing window
The Moulinex Flower Delight OW240E is a real all-in-one device. This not only makes bread, gluten-free alternatives, but also yogurt, quark and jam. Thanks to the high output and even heat, rye and wholemeal breads also get crispy and brown on the outside.
The Panasonic SD-ZB2512 offers a wide range of programs for baking bread and can even handle sourdough without any problems.
The Panasonic SD-ZB2512KXE is the only bread maker in the test with a real program for sourdough bread in two steps. The device kneads the dough, lets it ferment for up to 13 hours and then bakes it at a high temperature. The result is a well-risen and well-baked sourdough loaf with a nice crust. In addition to this special case, the Panasonic can also handle many other types of bread, as well as yeast and pizza dough or jam. In addition, separate nut and yeast dispensers mix additional ingredients into the dough at the right time. A very good result.
Functions & operation
The Panasonic provides a total of 33 programs to choose from, including 18 programs for types of bread. Clicking through is a bit tedious, but handling is generally good. You can also set the bread size and degree of browning. Most programs have a built-in time delay: For better results, the temperature of the ingredients is first brought together for 30 minutes before preparation begins. A quick program is only available for simple yeast breads. Breads weighing up to 1,000 grams are baked, which is not quite a family size. There is a lot of information about ingredients and nutrition in the manual. There is also a memory function on board: if the machine loses power, it saves the progress and continues to work at the point.
Accessories & mains operation
The Panasonic not only has a mechanism that mixes nuts, seeds or raisins into the dough at the right time. A second dispenser also distributes dry or fresh yeast when preparing bread. A special stirring hook and two measuring beakers for the ingredients are included for the sourdough program, so the Panasonic is really armed in this regard. You will still need the enclosed dough scraper. The 13-hour timer is of course not only useful for making sourdough. The device is comparatively economical in terms of power consumption.
Processing & cleaning
The plastic and aluminum housing of the Panasonic is of high quality, and the hinges of the lid and the dispenser boxes also seem stable. The bread maker is basically solid and worth the money. The cleaning is a little more time-consuming due to the additional automatic dispenser, but okay. According to the manufacturer, the baking pan has a particularly scratch-resistant non-stick coating.
The Panasonic SD-ZB2512KXE is just as expensive as the test winner, but the bread maker also offers most of the functions and even fulfills special requests. You currently pay around 170 euros.
- very good baking results
- Program for sourdough bread with an even crust
- reparate nut and yeast donors
- 33 programs for almost every requirement
- Breads only up to 1,000 grams
- quite a long preparation time
The Panasonic SD-ZB2512 is not a bargain and only bakes medium-sized breads, but the device can do a lot. This can be seen in the abundant selection of programs. Sourdough is also not a problem.
How much do I have to spend on a good bread maker?
You can usually find well-known branded products among bread makers from 100 euros. With the solidly manufactured devices in this price range, you can bake larger loaves of bread and usually have a large selection of baking programs available. You get the most comfort and practical additional functions with premium devices for 150 euros and more. The models that are offered for less than 100 euros include usable bargains, some from discount stores, as well as rather inferior imported devices. So this is where you should take a closer look. The top recommendations in the AllesBeste test cost between 85 and 170 euros.
Bread baking machines in the test: how were the products rated?
When selecting the test devices, AllesBeste largely left out smaller machines that can bake a maximum of 750 gram bread. The focus was on machines for breads of between 900 and 1,800 grams. Whole grain and sourdough breads were baked in the test devices.
For the wholemeal bread, the testers filled in the appropriate amount of the baking mix and assessed the result: the crust, the consistency and the color of the bread. The whole wheat bread mostly turned out well.Sourdough bread poses a greater challenge: the dough has to rest for around half a day at room temperature, ferment and then bake at a high temperature.
Only one test device had a real program to choose from; other models had to be improvised. The result was mostly disappointing in the test, the loaf wasn’t baked through or had no crust. Only certain bread makers are suitable for making sourdough bread. In addition, AllesBeste checked the processing of the devices, their cleaning and technical details such as the volume during operation and the power consumption.
For ease of use, it depends on which helpful functions the bread maker has, how easy it is to read the display and how understandable the menu guidance and program selection are. The testers selected three recommendations from all devices and named plus and minus points for all models.
What is a bread maker and how does it work?
If you bake bread occasionally, you first have to mix the ingredients, knead the dough and then put it in the oven. However, if you want fresh bread on the table on a regular basis, it is worth purchasing a bread maker that does everything independently.
You actually only put the right amount of ingredients in the baking pan and let the device knead and bake. A number of programs are available for this, with which the type of bread can be selected, including gluten-free baked goods, for example. You can even schedule many devices so that fresh bread is baked exactly in the morning when you get up or in the evening after work.
For technical reasons, the dough hooks for the dough leave holes in the bottom of the baked bread. If you remove the hooks between the kneading dough and the baking, there will still be the shafts to which the hooks will be attached. The holes are then at least a little smaller and less noticeable. Transferring the dough is additional work that is somewhat contrary to the purpose of the bread maker.
Ready mixes for bread are quite cheap, you pay less for your bread per loaf than in the bakery. Of course, you have to factor in acquisition and operating costs. In addition, baking in the bread maker takes several hours, so you cannot satisfy spontaneous cravings with it. In addition, if you do not use a baking mix, but mix the ingredients yourself, you have to pay close attention to the quantities, otherwise the bread will fail quickly.
How well do bread makers cope with sourdough?
Usually the bread maker does the kneading of the dough and the baking of the bread in one go, all you have to do is add the ingredients and press the button. This is difficult with sourdough, because here the lactic acid bacteria have to ferment for up to half a day before the baking process can begin.
If the bread maker does not have a sourdough program and a sufficiently long time control, you have to knead the dough and bake it in individual steps and it does not make your work much easier compared to baking without a machine.
When kneading the wet and sticky sourdough in the machine, you usually have to help because the flour sticks to the edge of the baking pan and has to be pushed down with the spatula. Only a few bread makers have special stirring hooks for this purpose.
When it comes to baking itself, the sourdough bread is also a challenge. The dough must initially be baked at a very high temperature to create a nice crust. Machines without their own sourdough program often produce a loaf that has not been baked through, has not risen or has no crust. In the test, only two of 19 models really got along with sourdough bread.
What do I have to look out for when buying a bread maker?
The available bread makers are suitable for different bread sizes. Compact devices only bake small loaves of bread weighing up to 750 grams, which may not be enough for families, especially since it takes a few hours to prepare the next bread. Medium-sized machines bake at least one kilo loaf, but with the heavier models you can also get 1,800-gram loaves. Ultimately, it depends on your preferences and your requirements for the device.
machines that make bread up to 1,000 grams usually get by with a dough hook. The double hook can knead larger amounts of dough faster and more thoroughly. For sourdough you also need special stirring hooks that stir the flour from the edge and bottom into the wet, sticky dough. The stirring mechanism leaves holes in the bottom of the loaf. So that these don’t get too ugly, you can remove the hooks before baking so that only the waves remain. For this purpose, it is useful if the dough hooks can be easily removed.
Menu & programs
As a rule, you cannot select the temperature yourself in the settings of the bread maker, at most you can set the bread to be browned. The device adheres to an exact recipe and controls kneading and baking fully automatically. It is therefore advantageous if programs for many different types of bread, dough variations and additional recipes such as jam are saved. However, the more choices there are, the more laborious it can be to navigate through the menu. Clarity is lacking, especially when the display has only one or two lines. A large and colored display, possibly even with a touchscreen, is a great advantage here.
Dimensions & weight
The size of the baking pan largely determines the dimensions of the machine. Devices with which you can bake 1,500 gram bread are therefore quite bulky and heavy in case of doubt. So you have to weigh up how much space you have left in your kitchen for the bread maker, but also what bread size you need. Large models are between 40 and 50 centimeters wide and up to 40 centimeters high. The weight of the bread maker is between 7 and 9 kilograms. Compact devices for 750 gram breads are around 10 centimeters narrower and 2 kilograms lighter.
Cleaning & Dishwasher Suitability
The removable baking pan and the dough hook are non-stick coated so that no dough sticks to them. Because of this coating, however, the parts must not be cleaned in the dishwasher or otherwise too aggressively, otherwise damage will occur. However, these can never be completely avoided. You must always wash the baking pan and dough hook by hand. How easy the housing can be cleaned, however, differs from model to model. If the keys are behind a plastic cover, you can wipe the surface with ease. In addition, the lid of some models can also be removed so that you can clean it more effectively.
Wear & spare parts
The main wear parts of the bread maker are the baking pan and the dough hook. The coating of these scratches at some point, even with careful handling, and then the bread sticks to it. Many manufacturers therefore offer replacement baking molds and dough hooks for their devices. It is best to check this beforehand if you plan to use your bread maker for a longer period of time. On the other hand, if something breaks in the mechanics, for example in the stirring or heating mechanism, it is usually not worth repairing. A completely new device is almost always cheaper.
Recipes & Baking Mixes
You can find bread mixes in every supermarket, and you often have bread made from different types of grain and also organic products to choose from. The finished mixes make dosing easy, you just fill the bread maker with the right amount of ingredients and water and all you have to do is press the button. The devices get along particularly well with bread mixes. If you mix the ingredients yourself, you have to follow the guidelines exactly in order for the bread to turn out well. Most breadmaking machines therefore come with recipes in some form, either as part of the operating instructions or with a separate recipe book included. The more help, the better. More expensive models are usually more informative here.
What are the alternatives to the bread maker?
The bread maker relieves you of a lot of the work, but if you don’t shy away from the workload, you can of course do without it: The dough can be kneaded with the food processor ( for advice on how to buy a food processor ) and the bread can be baked conventionally in the oven ( for advice on how to buy an oven ) – You can buy the right baking pan. If you don’t bake a lot and don’t need fresh bread regularly, the bread maker is probably less worthwhile.
With the conventional method, you also have more options for experimenting: You can omit or add ingredients and freely choose the temperature or baking time. Only a few bread makers allow you to program your own recipes. As a rule, the devices are set up for ready-made bread mixes with precise quantities of ingredients and automatically adjust the temperature and duration accordingly. A bread maker is not always a must.
How do I clean and care for the machine correctly?
The baking pan with the dough hook can usually be easily removed from the machine and dismantled. The Teflon or ceramic coating prevents the dough from sticking: the loaf of bread simply slides out after baking. Some of the shafts on which the dough hooks sit are not coated. If necessary, you can rub this with a little oil.
However, you have to clean the baking pan and dough hook by hand, the non-stick coating is not suitable for the dishwasher. You should also avoid aggressive cleaning agents and steel sponges to protect the coating. As a rule, cleaning with warm water, washing-up liquid and a sponge is sufficient. Rubbing in sunflower oil is also good for the clean baking pan. But even with great care, the coating on the baking pan will eventually be scratched and the bread will stick to it.
The only thing that can help here is a new baking pan. The rest of the case should usually not get too dirty and can be cleaned with a damp cloth. You have to be careful that water cannot penetrate the keys either, a plastic cover will help here. Some bread makers also offer the option of removing the lid for easier cleaning. But that’s not always the case.
Can I make jam with the bread maker?
Making jam in a bread maker is actually quite easy, as most devices even offer a jam program. You need the right amount of fresh fruit and preserving sugar, the ingredients can then be boiled in the bread maker for one to two hours.
The appropriate quantities and steps can be found in the instructions for use for your device. If this is not the case, you can usually easily transfer the corresponding recipes from the Internet to your machine. You just have to make sure that the ingredients fit into the baking pan and that nothing overflows. The recommended ratio of fruit to preserving sugar is usually 2: 1.
The most important questions about bread makers at a glance
Which bread maker is the best?
The bread maker test showed that the Moulinex Mac.Pane OW 6101 delivers the best result. The model only gets along less well with sourdough; the Panasonic SD-ZB2512 is better suited for this. Both devices cost between 150 and 185 euros. It can also be cheaper.
Which recipes is a bread maker suitable for?
The bread maker is versatile. Of course, he gets along with different types of bread, depending on the model, more or less well with sourdough. In addition, the machine kneads pasta and pizza dough and can reduce jam. However, you often have to be meticulous about the quantities of ingredients.
For whom is a bread maker worthwhile?
The bread maker does a lot of work, it kneads the dough and bakes it automatically. It’s worth it if you want to enjoy fresh bread on a regular basis. How does the timer on the bread maker work?
